Gerber Timeline

Building from the Ground Up

Gerber Construction was founded in October 1974 with Preston, Max, Scott as founders and a few other team members working out of the Gerber family garage. The team specialized in residential and sub-contracted concrete work using a red 1964 Ford pickup, a Case 580B backhoe, and a few basic tools. From those humble beginnings, the foundation was laid for what would become a trusted name in the concrete construction Industry.

1974
Outgrowing the Garage

Within 4 short years, Gerber Construction outgrew Preston’s garage and they built their first office on newly purchased land in Midvale ,Utah. The 6,000-square-foot facility provided much-needed space for operations as the team transitioned toward larger commercial work.

1978
A New Name and a Bigger Yard

By the mid-1980s, Gerber’s capabilities expanded beyond concrete into full-scale construction. With 32 employees and growing demand, the company moved to Draper to a new three-acre office and yard. So large at the time that it seemed impossible to fill. This era marked the shift to “Gerber Construction, Inc.” and the beginning of work on bridges and complex water diversion structures.

1986
Expanding Horizons

The 1990s brought major growth and diversification. Gerber took on bridge widening, dam rehabilitation, water tanks, pump stations, mine reclamation, and other large-scale civil projects across the Intermountain West. Projects like Geneva modernization and UDOT bridge rehabilitations marked a new chapter of expertise, innovation, and reliability in heavy civil construction.

1990s
Moving to Lehi

With an expanding fleet, fabrication, and field crews, Gerber outgrew its Draper location and moved to a larger facility in Lehi, Utah. The new shop enabled in-house fabrication and painting, allowing greater control over schedule, quality, and cost. The move reflected Gerber’s steady growth and commitment to doing more work to help the company grow.

2001
Olmstead Flowline Rehabilitation

High on the mountainside of Provo Canyon, Gerber Construction rehabilitated a 672-foot section of the 102-inch Olmstead Pipeline. A highly hazardous and technically demanding project that required exceptional precision and teamwork. The crew removed, re-fabricated, and encased the pipeline in reinforced concrete while stabilizing it with rock anchors and aesthetic concrete treatments.

Few companies were willing to take on a job of this complexity and risk, but for Gerber, projects like Olmstead define who we are. Builders who embrace challenges others won’t, and who deliver lasting work where precision and courage meet.

2004
Murdock Canal Trail

The Murdock Canal Trail Design-Build Project transformed the historic Provo Reservoir Canal into a 17-mile multi-use corridor for walking, cycling, and horseback riding. Inspired by the canal’s legacy, the design featured water-themed aesthetics, educational pipeline displays, and community-specific undercrossings. Gerber used advanced 3D modeling, modular forming systems, and innovative construction sequencing to reduce material use, improve efficiency, and minimize traffic impacts—delivering a durable, high-quality trail that connects cities, honors history, and enhances Utah County’s quality of life.

2011
Echo Dam Spillway Reconstruction

Gerber led a full spillway and gate structure reconstruction at Echo Dam. The work included removal, refacing, and reinstallation of massive radial gates fabricated and coated in Gerber’s Lehi shop. Despite a tight seasonal window, the team completed the project on time, incorporating advanced stabilization and waterproofing techniques to ensure long-term performance.

2014
Green River Tusher Diversion

Gerber Construction rebuilt the historic Tusher Diversion on the Green River, replacing a century-old structure with a modern system that balanced infrastructure, environment, and fish passage needs. The project involved sheet pile cutoff walls, sluice gates, and complex river management under an aggressive schedule. It earned UC&D’s 2016 Most Outstanding Project Award.

2016
9th South Connector Bridge Rehab

Gerber rehabilitated the SR-270 bridge over 300 West in Salt Lake City. Crews worked around the clock to replace the deck with post-tensioned precast panels, apply polymer overlays, and repair structural columns using carbon fiber reinforcement. The bridge reopened to traffic by Labor Day, showcasing Gerber’s efficiency, precision, and dedication to schedule.

2018
Silver Creek Water Reclamation Expansion

Gerber constructed a new 4-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment facility for Silver Creek. The project required extensive coordination to keep the existing plant in service while building new headworks, basins, and process buildings. Self-performing much of the work, Gerber delivered award-winning results recognized by AGC and ACI for excellence in civil construction and concrete.

2019
50 Years of Building What Lasts

In 2024, Gerber Construction celebrated 50 years of shaping Utah’s infrastructure and communities. From a small family operation working out of a garage to a respected heavy civil contractor tackling some of the state’s most complex projects, our journey has been defined by hard work, integrity, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Every bridge, tank, and structure we’ve built represents more than just concrete and steel—it reflects the dedication of generations who believed in building with purpose. As we look ahead, we remain grounded in the same values that started it all: craftsmanship, trust, and people who take pride in their work.

2024
North Shore Reservoir

Gerber Construction completed the 15-million-gallon Phase II North Shore Terminal Reservoir, delivering critical water storage and infrastructure upgrades for the region. The project included construction of a new buried concrete reservoir, valve vaults, extensive piping systems, and full SCADA integration for modernized controls.

Crews managed complex excavation, shoring, and restoration while maintaining existing operations. The result: a resilient, high-capacity facility built for the future of Utah’s water needs. Gerber Construction was honored with AGC’s 2024 Overall Transportation / Utility Infrastructure Project of the Year Award for this accomplishment.

2024
Rebuilt, Refined, and Rebranded

In 2025, Gerber Construction launched a full rebrand, modernizing its look while honoring its legacy of craftsmanship and integrity. The new identity reflects who we’ve always been: builders who take pride in tough work, lasting results, and a team-first culture. From a refreshed logo and website to new communication tools, the rebrand reinforces Gerber’s commitment to progress, proving that even after five decades, we’re still building what lasts.

2025

Community Service

More Than Building—We Give Back

Gerber Construction actively organizes blood drives, food donations, and local service events—investing in our communities as much as in our infrastructure.

In 2025, we became the first business to receive the JustServe Hero Award from Lehi Serves, with 158 employees contributing an estimated $60,000–$70,000 in labor during a city-wide day of service in Lehi, Utah.

Our Team

We’re proud of the people behind our work. With hundreds of years of combined experience, our team brings dedication, precision, and professionalism to every job site—ensuring every project is built to last.
